WRC Audits- Employer’s Records Log

WRC- Three letters to make you shiver on a January morning, and it has nothing to do with the weather either!
 
Do you know that the WRC can audit your premises unannounced at any moment, without your permission?
 
Do you know they can speak to any staff member in full about their employment rights and ask questions that can set your heart racing? Each infringement on an employee’s rights carries a penalty of €2000!
 
How confident would you be if they asked you for your Employer’s Record Logs? Ah, the what you say? Exactly.
 
But don’t worry! We will give you the basics..
 

 
There is a huge amount of information you need to carry so here it is:
 
Employee Register for current and past employees, including young persons. You need their full names, addresses, PPS numbers, start dates, termination dates if applicable, proof of work permit (or proof that none is needed).
You need records of all contracts of employment, or at least the core terms if working for less than 2 months.
You must have records of all hours worked, breaks taken, pay rates including overtime, premiums, etc., and records of all entitlements and time taken in respect of bank holidays and annual leave.
You must be able to prove that you issued payslips to all employees, and each employee has your employer number issued to them.
You need to keep full records of employment class, PRSI, Tax, USC, and any other deductions made to wages, details of any expenses paid and any board and lodgings covered.
 
WOW, that is a lot, but let’s get practical. You can easily keep on top of this by putting a system in place, which is practical and transparent, such as allowing employees to submit their own signed timesheets each week.
